Mark Helms Construction
Arguably one the most unique designs on this year’s tour of homes is just east of Selah. That’s where an idea scratched on a cocktail napkin 20 years ago was brought to life by Mark Helms Construction. At only 3,000 square feet this custom build takes advantage of an awesome view. Overlooking Selah from the east side of I-82, you get Ansel Adams worthy views of Mounts Adams and Rainier as well as spectacular sunsets. Shed style roofs create interesting angles from every side. The gray on gray exterior emphasizes the geometry of the project, while rock and natural wood accents highlight specific focal points.
Attention to detail is the hallmark of a Mark Helms Construction house, and this one checks all the boxes. The interior design throughout the house is based around an earthy palette. Warm neutral tones and deep browns make for a soothing environment. The hub of the home is a huge great room, kitchen, dining space. Dark fir wood doors and alder cabinets are featured in an open concept that’s equally perfect for entertaining or a quiet night in. The oversized island is home to the gas cook top and range with plenty of alternative dining space. The great room faces a linear gas fireplace below a tv that would make any sports fan envious. But the view through the floor to ceiling widows is the highlight of the room. One step off the great room is a spacious outdoor living space adjacent to a 40’ long pool. State of the art appliances, lighting, entertainment and comfort elements are all controlled by a top of the line home automation system. With the three bedrooms, three baths, rec room, and a “secret” den rounding out this creative layout.
The house is set at the top of the 11-acre property surrounded by grass and alfalfa hay. The original, now abandoned portion of Firing Center road serves as part of the driveway up to the house. Roads on three sides, and the Rosa canal behind creating a very private compound like atmosphere. A definite “don’t miss” on the 2019 tour of homes.
